The Del Mar Race Track Racing Scene - Paintings with the Spirit of the Industry

Del Mar Race Track and the Del Mar backstretch paintings are shown below by artist Elin Pendleton, full member of the American Academy of Equine Art.

"Washing the Favorite" , I retrieved a canvas and brought this one to life on a 12 x 12 inch box canvas.
12 x 12 inches, on gallery-wrap (no framing needed) and I'm enjoying the painting of human figures these few days.  $400

"Workout" Just a little quick study in acrylics to focus on the contrast of light. I see places where I'll continue to tweak it. When I start putting these back on ebay toward the end of this month, it will look quite a bit different! Original acrylic 5 x 7 inches on board. $125
"Heading to the Tunnel" Time to paint a scene from the Del Mar Race Track again. From the Clubhouse, one can look down on the field heading for the track below. The out rider brings up the rear Original oil, 6 x 12 inches. NEWSFLASH! This image is being used on the VIP passes for the 2007 racing season! US $495 Contact Elin or
"Checking the Overnighters, Del Mar" The pony boys and pony girls at Del Mar need to know what horse they are going to take to the starting gate for each race. The paperwork that they receive is called the "overnighter", and on this day, it is pink. This scene is found at the right (east) end of the grandstand area, and the small stadioum seating behind the rider is for the support people to watch the race. The track is behind this fence. Original oil on canvas, 16 x 20 inches US $1000 Contact Elin or
"Jockeys Up! Del Mar Race Track" In the very familiar paddock area of Del Mar, one can see the grooms in their tunics leading the entrants for the next race on the last loop before heading through the tunnel to the track. That's Julie Krone in the green silks on Number 4! Original Oil on canvas, 24 x 36 inches, shown in the "Equine Spirit" show at the Denver Wildlife Museum and the Kentucky Horse Park Museum of the Horse in 2004. US $ 3400 Contact Elin or
"Between Races, Del Mar" On a recent visit to Del Mar, Elis saw the outriders waiting to see whom they would escort to the starting gate. Familiar faces to folks who know Del Mar! Original Oil on canvas, 16 x 20 inches, US $1150 Contact Elin or
"Waiting to Cross, Del Mar" From a workout morning at Del Mar Race Track, Elin took a common image to anone involved with training the thoroughbreds--crossing the track from the backstretch to the paddock area. The blue-green fence covering the wide expanse of the track coupled with the characteristic red Spanish tile roofs all say "Del Mar". Original oil on linen canvas, 12 x 16 inches, US $900 Contact Elin or

"Washing War Emblem, Del Mar" The beautiful and famous War Emblem, in a not-so-proud moment, getting a sponge to the face!  This stallion is so full of energy that merely giving him a bath was a challenge for the grooms.  In this painting, he has four feet on the ground--almost!  But his characteristic markings are there for those in the know--the green noseband, the star and snip on his face.  Original oil on canvas, 16 x 20 inches.
